“Jimmy V Foundation”

On the heels of last week’s commentary, below is the link to the original speech made by Coach Jim Valvano at the Inaugural ESPY awards in 1993.  North Carolina State’s Valvano would soon come to the end of a long battle with cancer, but not before delivering this inspiring and stirring oration.  Most of all, Valvano’s unparalleled energy, charisma and class carry his message of courage throughout the speech.  His zeal and lust for the gifts of life are remarkable aspects of the man’s character that truly drive that lesson home.

At the end of the speech, Coach Valvano explains The Jimmy V Foundation, set up through the benevolence of ESPN and donors across the country. The foundation funds cancer research and clinical trials to help fight the disease.  This organization continues to do a great deal to help lead this battle; consider taking a look at their website, which I have linked below, to find out more about the many ways you can get involved in the foundation.

Please take some time to watch Coach Valvano’s stirring acceptance speech; it will leave you moved yet poised to do more.
