This course integrates manual therapy (mobilization and thrust mobilization) techniques and specific exercise programs in the management of individuals with mechanical neck pain and headaches. Review of the current literature regarding neck disorders and headaches will be presented. Discussion on current state of practice and problem cases will be discussed.
This course is a combination of brief lectures and intensive laboratory sessions. Participants will receive hands-on demonstration and practice of both examination and selected interventions of the upper thorax, cervical spine, and craniocervical region. A heavy focus will be placed on the proficient use of hold-relax, mobilization, and thrust mobilization techniques of the cervical and thoracic region.
Upon completion of this course the participants will be able to:
- Describe the current best evidence for the use of manual therapy in the management of headaches and neck pain.
- Apply a patient centered clinical reasoning framework that avoids over medicalizing neck pain.
- Demonstrate evidence-based clinical examination skills.
- Select and demonstrate manual physical therapy and exercise interventions based on current best evidence.
