Hello! My name is Mike Funyak, the Social Chair of the Class of 2018. I graduated from Slippery Rock University in 2015 with a degree in Exercise Science while I also played for the nationally ranked club inline (roller) hockey team and co-founded the university club soccer team. Earning certifications as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM EP-C) has given me a wide range of experience from working with NCAA athletes to working in a cardiac rehabilitation center with deconditioned patients. I am from Cheswick, PA, which is about 20 minutes northeast of downtown Pittsburgh. That being said, I have lived here all my life and grew up knowing the city inside and out, and I am a huge Penguins fan (I had no choice, not since I was 8 months old). I grew up playing soccer, hockey, and tennis, and continue to do so whenever I am afforded the opportunity. Because I have been active throughout my life, I learn best by doing, and the Pitt DPT Program affords me the great opportunity to apply my skills continuously through clinical practice under the guidance of experienced clinical instructors. It has proven the best way for me to learn how to become an effective clinician, and I could not be happier with the results!
