Hello! My name is Aaron McConnell and I came to PITT to pursue my DPT after graduating from Northwestern State University’s Louisiana Scholars’ College in Natchitoches, Louisiana. I earned my BA in Fine and Performing Arts with a concentration in vocal music performance and definitely consider myself one of the non-traditional PT students! I was a pre-med and vocal music performance double major until I decided that I wanted to become a physical therapist. After I worked in a PT clinic the summer after my freshman year of undergrad, I saw how physical therapy changed patients’ lives and I knew that that is what I wanted to do with my life. Currently, my interests lie in the fields of cardio-pulmonary PT and sports PT. My eventual goal is to work in a clinic that specializes in outpatient cardiac rehab with somewhat of an athletic focus or to work with athletes and focus on optimizing their cardio-pulmonary function, health, and wellness. Moving to Pittsburgh after growing up in Louisiana was a huge transition, but I have enjoyed living here so far! Last note is that I wrote an undergraduate thesis titled, “Artistic Science and Scientific Art: Comparing the Portrayal of Anatomical Art in Renaissance Italy to Modern Medical Illustration” and if you are curious about that topic – feel free to ask me about it!
