My name is Kara Kaniecki and I am an SHRS representative for the Graduate and Professional Student Government. Growing up in the Pittsburgh area and going to the University of Pittsburgh for my undergraduate career has made me fall in love with this city more than I ever could have imagined. My undergraduate degree is in Natural Science and I picked up minors in Political Science and History along the way. Basically, if you ever need a trivia night partner, I’m your girl. I am ecstatic to be continuing my education at this wonderful university to achieve my DPT. I started becoming interested in physical therapy at a young age, due to the extensive therapy my sister has received since she was a toddler. My sister, Sarah, has cerebral palsy and has been my motivating factor for pursuing PT. As I accumulated hours of experience in multiple PT settings, I determined my passion was embedded in geriatric and neurologic physical therapy. I find stroke rehab to be incredibly interesting and I could talk to older individuals for hours on end. I see myself eventually working in an inpatient setting, and possibly doing home health. When I am not doing something PT related, you can catch me watching a Steelers or a Penguin’s game. Besides being a passionate Pittsburgh sports fan, I also enjoy cooking, traveling, and trying new restaurants in the area. I am so excited to continue these next few years in Pittsburgh and I can’t wait to see what else Pitt DPT has in store. Hail to Pitt!
